New CD

New CD from Ruth McGillivray - Abide With Me
Abide With Me is Ruth McGillivray's new solo gospel CD. It's a collection of mostly old hymns re-invented in a reflective blues/jazz style. Ruth's fresh, uncluttered arrangements bring new life to a timeless message.
Ruth says, "I grew up singing most of these songs. Disillusionment drifted me away from church for a long time, but when things got tough the songs came back to me. In rare moments when it was just me and a piano, they found their way out in a more personal way, like life had changed the flavour. They seemed to resonate with others, too...like coming home, but all grown up."
Ruth wanted to record and share her new/old songs, but didn't want to profit from what to her was a gift from love. She had an idea. Make the songs available to people navigating their own valleys, and donate the proceeds to others who have it even harder. Ruth mentioned the idea to producer, Roy Salmond, who arranged funding for the CD through a generous donation from incarNATION ministries.
Charities Supported
Ruth is donating 50% of the selling price of each CD to organizations that help disadvantaged children and caregivers in countries where there are no safety nets. At this time, the money is going to:
- The Stephen Lewis Foundation, which "supports community-level organizations that are turning the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa by providing care and support to women, orphans, grandmothers and people living with HIV and AIDS" (stephenlewisfoundation.org)
- Hands at Work in Africa, which works "in vulnerable communities across sub-Saharan Africa where HIV/AIDS, poverty and numbers of orphans are highest and support structures are very low." (handsatwork.org).
How to Get Copies or More Info
Until Abide With Me becomes commercially available, copies of the CD are only available from Ruth. This is just temporary, of course. It should be available in Spring 2012.
